One idea I had for affordable housing is to create community housing where the residents help run and support the community in exchange for being a tenant. They could clean, do maintenance, lawn care, laundry or contribute somehow by helping the community. Instead of owning a portion of the property like a co-op they could work for the community. They could have restaurants, stores, events, movie theaters, a pool or spa as amenities for the community. Investors could renovate old commercial buildings, shopping malls or shopping centers or hotels to start it up. It would be a solution to affordable housing and they could save more money while they stay there.
