For those that don’t use your car for long ranges but need to commute on a weekly basis, maybe electric is your best option. The 2015 BMW i3 is BMW’s first electric production car. This is when BMW introduced carbon fiber paneling on this concept. It has 170HP that goes from 0-60 in 7.2 seconds. It has a range of 81 miles on a full charge but with a range extension (which is a gas generator) you can get an extra 61 miles. They are pretty affordable now since they have depreciated, you can get one for $15k with less than 50k miles. They can seat up to 5 people with a hatch back for cargo or storage. I would recommend getting an i3 for the short range commuter if you live in a warm climate, I would not recommend getting one if you live in a place with harsh winters since the range drops down 50%.
